In the year 1892, Sheffield United was one of twelve clubs chosen to play in the second division of the football league and gained promotion in to the top flight at the end of their debut season. They won the league title in 1898 and the FA Cup in 1899 and 1902. In the year 1915, the Blade FA Cup final win was watched by thousands of men in what is now known today as the ‘Khaki Final.’ In the year 1934, Sheffield United was relegated for the first time in 40 years. The Blades spent the majority of the next 25 years as a second division club. Under the guidance of Johnny Harris in 1959, a revival occurred and they gained promotion back into the top flight in the 1960’s, finishing the 1974 – 1975 campaign off in sixth place in the top flight. After dropping down divisions, Dave Bassett lifted United up from the third division in to the top flight in two years and he established them in the top flight. They suffered relegation at the end of the 1993 – 1994 season and they remained a second tier side for 12 years, gaining promotion back into o the premiership at the end of the 2005 – 2006 seasons under the guidance of Neil Warnock. They reached the semi finals of the 2003 FA Cup, losing 1-0 against Arsenal.

Great Players
Joe Shaw - Shaw was a skilful defender who marshalled the heart of the Sheffield United back line, making a record of 629 league appearances and helped the club gain promotion in to the top flight in 1961. He retired from playing football in 1966.
