In the year 1905, Newcastle United won the league title, however they narrowly missed out on winning the ‘double,’ as they lost 2-0 against Aston Villa in the FA cup final. Over the next seven years, the Magpies close passing game took them to the championship on two more occasions. They failed to appear among the honours again until 1924, when they defeated Villa in the FA Cup final. In the season, 1926 – 1927, the fine Hughie Gallacher was sin prolific form, scoring 36 goals in only 38 matches. In the year 1933, Newcastle won the FA cup final once again. After the Second World War, Players of the calibre of Jackie Milburn and Bobby Mitchell powered Newcastle back to the top. They won the FA Cup three times in the 1950’s, in the years 1951, 1952 and 1955. A magnificent UEFA Cup win in 1969 under Joe Harvey was a bright spot for the club. Kevin Keegan was signed to Newcastle in 1982 and he helped carry the Magpies into the top flight in 1985. After suffering relegation, their new manager, Kevin Keegan, led the club to promotion during the 1992 – 1993 season and they nearly won the premiership in 1996. The broke the world transfer record in the summer of 1996 as they signed Alan Shearer for £15 million. They reached the FA Cup final in 1998 and 1999 however they suffered on the losing end on both occasions.

Great Players

Jackie Milburn - Milburn was a youngster from Newcastle when he joined the club and instantly became a favorite with the fans. He scored goals in two of Newcastle’s three FA Cup finals in the 1950’s. At the point of leaving the club, he was Newcastle’s record highest league goal scorer with 178 goals.
