Crewe were founder members of the second division in 1893, finishing the campaign off in tenth place. They entered the third division north during the 1921 – 1922 season and were regular members of the division, until they suffered relegation in 1958. Promotion from the fourth division came twice for Crewe during the 1960’s, however on both occasions they went straight back down. Many managers came and went however the clubs loyalty to Dario Grady paid off in the 1988 – 1989 season when they finished third place in the fourth division to earn promotion. They have recently been hovering around the second and third tier of English football and they have a knack of developing great players, including David Platt and Dean Ashton over recent years.

Tommy Lowry: Lowry spent twelve blistering years playing for Crewe Alexandra and recorded a staggering 436 league appearances. He was part of Crewe side that was playing in the third and fourth division.
