Chester City entered the football league in the year 1931 and nearly gained promotion under the guidance of Charlie Hewitt from the third division north in the 1935 – 1936 season. Unfortunately, Chester city have remained a lower league club for their entire football career. In the 1964 – 1965 season, they scored a staggering 141 league and cup goals, however they still only managed to finish the season off in eight place in the fourth division. Chester City won promotion in the 1975 – 1976 season to the third division and during the late 1970’s, the club’s primary asset was a forward of the name of Ian Rush. After scoring 14 league goals in the 1979 – 1980 campaign, he was sold for a staggering £300,000 to Liverpool. Mark Wright is currently enjoying his second spell as manager of Chester city and they are a well established league two club at present.

Ray Gill – Left back Ray Gill provided fantastic service for Chester City after the second world war, he joined City in the year 1951 and made a record of 408 appearances in the third division north and fourth division before leaving the club in 1962.
