The Seasiders joined the league for the second time in the year 1901 after a season in the Lancashire league. The seasiders gained promotion in to the top flight at the end of the 1929 – 1930 campaign. Their star player at the time was Jimmy Hampson, scoring a club record of 45 goals in the 1929 – 30 season. Under the guidance of Joe Smith, Blackpool reached the FA Cup final in 1948 and 1951, however lost both matches. Their side included some great names, Stanley Mathews and Stan Mortensen. They won the FA Cup in 1953, in what proved to be an incredible performance by Stanley Mathews; they won a thrilling final encounter against Bolton wanderers 4- 3. They were challengers for the league title for much of the 1950’s finishing off in second place at the end of the 1955 – 1956 campaign. The Seasiders suffered relegation at the end of the 1966 – 1967 season and never really found their terrific form again. They have hovered around the lower leagues over the last 40 years.

Great Players
Jimmy Armfield –
Jimmy Armfield was one of the finest right backs in the world, earning 43 caps for England, 15 of which were as the captain. He spent a staggering 19 years with Blackpool between 1952 and 1971, winning the 1953 FA Cup with the Seasiders.
